From a simple gift shop and magazine stand started by our great-grandfather as a retirement income project to a full service hobby and toy store, we have seen many changes in the industry and look forward to many more. The one constant in all those years is that those stores that take care of their customers are the ones that last. We take care of our customers and we're not going anywhere anytime soon!
We are the hobby store of the past here to serve you in the future. Our product mix and old-fashioned service will remind you of the toy and hobby shops you visited as a child, but with all of the latest developments. Our technical expertise and ability to seek out those hard to find special orders or an answer to a difficult question really set us apart from the rest.
The Longer History:
Eugene Toy & Hobby's 82 year history can be traced back through 5 generations of the Agerter family. Great-Great-Grandpa Perry Agerter retired to Eugene in 1932, and took over ownership of a simple gift shop and magazine stand. Not too long afterward, he fully retired and offered the business to his son Byron.
In 1933 Byron, his wife Eva, and their young son Paul moved out to Eugene. They eventually added the first toys and model trains and airplanes that would later dominate their inventory.
Throughout the next 33 years the store continued to expand necessitating 4 moves. The most recent of which was in 1969 to our current location at 32 East 11th Ave. Paul and his sons Mark and Alan became partners in 1981 when Byron and Eva officially retired. Paul retired in 1991 as Mark and Alan took over.
Magazines were fully eliminated by 1986 when the building was remodeled and expanded to it's current size.
Alan's two children, Andrew and Emily, as well as Mark's son Matthew are all on board to ensure we remain your toy and hobby store throughout the next generation.
